Hey i was just wondering if i would get speakers from like an 2004 ion and put them into my sl1 1996, if it would be better quality and maybe add more bass to it? or should i just get a sub with an amp for that?

If they're factory speakers in the Ion, then it's not going to be much of an upgrade if any, unless you're going from blown speakers to not blown speakers.  If you want better sound, buy quality aftermarket speakers.

I think a Saturn forum is one of the few places someone would tell someone to buy a Topaz over a Porsche..

Pioneers economy line sucks as well... and I am a pioneer fan. As a general rule over $70 is where I started hearing better than stock all around. Polks are one of my favs.

polk audio are nice, duals suck, and ION stock speakers suck, they're better than some, but not worth the trouble of swapping them,

Where you from? I got a set of 4 Alpine SPS-600's for around 70 bucks, one of those eBay sellers that sell out of Concord, Ontario....
Decent speakers, I have to say...

If your getting them free the speakers in my moms ION-2 sound decent for stock speakers.

If you have to pay for them, best to grab some pioneers or similar aftermarket. The more you spend the better it sounds generally.

I bought the Alpine Type-R speakers for mine and they sound fantastic! Not too badly priced...
