Is there a header out there for the 3rd gen that allows retention of the AC? I know the DSM headers are supposed to bolt up to the 9 bolt heads... I was curious how they fit or interfere with the AC pump. I'm looking at running a smallish turbo (t3) if that helps.

Thanks!

Also, a quick question, about how much hp can the stock fuel pump support? I'm considering a low boost build with an EIC... I'd be very happy with 160 whp

The OBX header fits fine.

If you want to turbo the car, why are you gonna waste money on a header... spend that money on a turbo manifold or the EIC>

The stock pump is good for around 270whp on the returnless system...just over 300 on a 91-97 systems (if you have a 97, the pumps where crappy and you might as well just replace it if you haven't already).

Ooh sorry for the confusion.. I meant is there a turbo header/manifold out there for the 9 bolt head that will allow me to retain AC. rephrased

Thanks for the fueling info... I've got a 99 so it sounds like I'll be golden for the power I'm shooting for haha

Digging through the pics in the turbo builds thread I did see someone with a 3rd gen with an "AC saver" header but I wasn't sure who made it or if its still available for purchase...

to keep the a/c there is modding the cast manifold. Stock 91/92 header and then obx/ebay. or even some logs. but, none of the 4g63t manifolds will retain the a/c. Going internal wastegate will help in retaining the a/c also. size of the turbo wont make to much of a difference.

MIKE alphatuning has make 1 or 2 A/C savers over the years

when you say 91/92 header or obx... do you mean modifying them to fit for a 9 bolt? is that possible?

Found these pics for an AC saving "u bend" from Pimped SC2's build thread
I'm sure a similar thing could be made for the crappier 3rd gen headers

damn forgot your a 9 bolt. But yeah then modding the obx 9 bolt could be done. But, Andrew's peice you posted there is a great way to keep everything in place and stock for the most part. Easy to make also.

The obx's are thin material.

Since your goal is to make only 160ish, I would recommend modding the stock cash 9-bolt manifold. It's material is alot thicker and will help with reliability.
I see no reason you can get 250-300 out of a manifold like that. You will reach a point where the t3 is more of a restriction then a modified cast manifold.

if you make one like Pimped SC2 be sure to put a brace between the flanges, if not it is only a matter of time before it will crack.

Are we still talking 3rd gen here cause I have yet to see a 9 bolt OBX log mani, and with the 5 bolt that I've seen I believe either to compressor housing or the downpipe would interfere with the AC compressor, because the turbo flange is centrally mounted. Most ac saver manis the turbo flange is mounted between runners 3-4 or right over 3.

I used to have a mikes alphatuning log mani with ac saver. Honestly it was a novel idea but after throwing insane egt's it caught fire and later I removed it and regretted going that route. why bother with AC, you are driving a boosted saturn that is cool enough.

Yeah I would likely wrap the lines and possibly make a heat shield if I was going to keep it, but there's nothing "wrong" with ac saver manifolds. Plenty of people have ran A/C turbo'd just fine

my ac lines were wrapped. it is funny. the car overheated tossing coolant all over soaking the fiberglass causing it to become flamable, lol.

yes tuning with the apexi. couldnt retard timing with it another of three reasons i had egt issues. i never said the log caused it, o said it was an issue
